This restaurant is a fabulous, family owned restaurant with mindfully prepared, delicious food. The owners are super kind. I have been eating here for years. I especially love their soups, which you can also get to go. They make a mean fried egg sandwich too. Really, everything they make is great.... No joke

I just left this restaurant. I didn't get a bad taste in my mouth from the food. Unfortunately the food was bland and not cooked well. I'm on a limited diet. I asked for 2 scrambled eggs, white toast, hash browns and a side of hollandaise sauce. The hollandaise is where I was expecting the flavor. It was a broken sauce that didn't taste like anything. The hash browns were old and gross.
I got the bill and I was charged $9.00 for the eggs hash browns and toast and then $5.00 for a side of hollandaise sauce. Horrible broken hollandaise sauce served in a Plastic Dixie cup that reminds me of the shot glasses Hooters Shooters are served in.
The three ring binder for a menu and the whited out menu options with higher prices should have been a dead give away that this place sucks.
To top it off I asked one of the owners if they had tasted the sauce and if they thought that $5.00 was priced fairly. I was attached and pushed out the door. She started taking other tabs to pay instead of help a customer end with an enjoyable experience.
In summary, 35% of my bill was the cost of the sauce that sucked combined with a horrible customer service experience will never bring be back here. -

Lousy.
Lousy food
Lousy service
Cash only-yeah I wish I didn't pay tax either. Give me a break. IRS hello?
Go to McDonalds save the money for graeter's ice cream and you'll be happier.
Waiter had the skill and manners of burnt cheese.
Wouldn't go back for free.
Food was an absolute ripoff.
How does this place stay in business? -

-Terrible food (ordered a turkey sandwich that was literally just stacked up turkey between two pieces of bread - that's it, I kid you not)
-cash only (in 2019 in Winnetka... helloooo)
- ludicrously overpriced ($25 for the worst turkey sandwich ever and a shake)
For some reason though the place was packed... -

If you're into mediocre cash-only (hello?) sit down places that have minimal ambiance, put this place on your shortlist.
I asked the waiter about the $12 turkey sandwich, and he was helpful enough to point out that it's literally a piece of turkey on bread. If I wanted other things like lettuce, mayo, tomato, I'd have to upgrade to the club which started at $14.50. That interaction basically sums up my experience here.
To be fair, the turkey panini we ended up with was good enough- big enough to share and the fries were acceptable.
